Looking for a Storyworth alternative? An honest comparison

Storyworth, Remento and MemoirNest all help you keep a parent’s or grandparent’s stories, but they work very differently. Here is what each one actually includes, so you can pick the one that fits your family — even if that isn’t us.

The short answer

  • Want a printed hardcover and don’t mind it taking weeks? Storyworth or Remento — both include a book credit.
  • Want something finished this week, free to try? MemoirNest turns one conversation into a written story you can read the same day. You print it yourself if you want paper.

Choose Storyworth if…

You want a printed book at the end, your storyteller is comfortable writing answers by email, and a year-long rhythm of one question a week suits them.

Choose Remento if…

Your storyteller would rather talk than type, you want a printed book, and you’re happy with an annual subscription after the first year.

Choose MemoirNest if…

You’d like to sit down together for one conversation, read a finished written story the same day, and check the facts with them before anyone else sees it. It’s free to try, with no account needed to start.

How MemoirNest is different

  • One sitting, not one year. Answer a few gentle questions together; MemoirNest asks follow-ups and drafts the story.
  • Built not to invent details. The draft works from what was said and marks uncertain names and dates for you to confirm — always read it back together.
  • No printed book — on purpose. The $39.99 Keepsake is a PDF with a cover, your photos and a dedication. Print it at home, at a print shop, or not at all.

Questions people ask

Is there a free alternative to Storyworth?

Your first MemoirNest story is free, and our question guides are free to read and print with no signup: 40 questions to ask your grandparents and 30 Thanksgiving questions. A notebook and a good question are a perfectly good start.

Can I turn a MemoirNest story into a book?

The Keepsake is a print-ready PDF, so you can print and bind it yourself or through a local print shop. We don’t print or ship books.

Is it too late to make one for the holidays?

No shipping is involved, so a story finished the evening before can still be printed and given the next day.
